Assistant Grocery Manager

The Assistant Grocery Manager works closely with the Grocery Manager to keep the shelves abundant and the store looking good. They will also do some ordering of dairy and from independent sellers. They work closely with the grocery team that consists of other buyers, receivers, stockers, and the team of buyers for the entire store. This buyer’s role works with many local producers and farmers as and companies from around the country. The role involves keeping track of details, including inventory control, pricing, merchandising, and maintaining relationships with our suppliers while brokering the best deals for our members and customers.  The ideal candidate loves local food, enjoys working in a collaborative environment, cares about responsible purchasing decisions, and is interested in what is hot and new in the VT food scene.

  • Ensure displays and shelves are fully stocked, properly rotated, fronted, and faced.
  • Reviews invoices for accuracy, price changes, and product additions
  • Establish prices, sales, and promotions to achieve set margin goals 
  • Ensure accurate, up-to-date price scanning and labeling of department items
  • Maintain the POS system database for inventory tracking
  • Quality control of goods sold, including returning rejected items

Merchandising

  • Ensure proper shelf tags and sale signs are on shelves and displays.
  • Cross merchandise products with other departments in coordination with marketing.
  • Able to perform all other duties included in buyer, stocker, and receiving positions.

Vendor Relations

  • Communicate ordering times, deadlines, and changes in delivery time to other departments with shared vendors.
  • Negotiate with suppliers, brokers, and sales reps for favorable prices, terms, quality, and delivery.

Skills Needed

  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • The capacity to pay attention to detail and effectively prioritize multiple tasks
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated
